The Middle Tennessee Herpetological Society, is a group of professional and amateur Herpetologists, Herpetoculturists, Conservationists, and Hobbiests. Our Mission is to continually gain knowledge of Tennessee's reptile and amphibian population through written and field research. This way, we as a society, can preserve the habitat and pass on the knowledge to others in our community/state as well as document changes in ecology for each species.
MTHS was founded in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2008 by J. B. Daniel. Established to encourage scholarship, dissemination of scientific information through facilities of the Society, research, as well as to encourage conservation of all wildlife and the herpetofauna of Tennessee in particular; and to achieve intimate cooperation and understanding between Professional and Amateur Herpetologists and Herpetoculturists, so that we may work united in a common cause. The MTHS encourages individuals to keep and maintain herpetofauna for educational and research purposes within the boundaries of Tennessee State Law and Regulations.
MTHS also provides community education events by appointment to schools, parks, and youth groups. Information on how to make and appointment for a reptile show can be found here.
We are a private society that operates on member "dues" as well as member and community donations. These member dues fund field trips and helps with the day to day operation of the society. Info on member dues can be found here.
